REST YOUR MIND, REST YOUR BODY

This one is for all the competitors out there.  Competing in fitness competitions is hard on your body.  To constantly stay in peak condition limits your growth potential because you are constantly eating below your calorie maintenance, this means that while in a calorie deficit to promote fat loss, your body never has extra calories to build new muscle.  So while you may keep your 6-pack year round, all your hard work in the weight section isn’t going to pay off less you take a bit of time off.

THE TRUTH ABOUT TONING

As a trainer, I hear a lot of fitness BS especially when my clients are just starting out. They have had all sorts of info pushed on them from every direction so it has to be correct, right? One of my biggest pet peeves (just behind the myth that whey protein will make you fat but that is another rant all together) is when I hear women say they just want to “tone up”, they don’t want to get big. Really? Can you tell me what it means to “tone up”? Are you coming up with a tight, lean look as what “toned” means? Well I hate to break it to you but that tight, lean look is muscle. That round, shapely booty? Yeah that’s muscle. Flat abs? Yep, muscle again.
